Open Water Swimming Experience: The majority of my swimming experience has been based in the pool, though in recent years I have started doing more cold-water swims in my local tidal pool, Clevedon Marine Lake. I have taken part in several open water events as well as triathlons though quickly realised the bike and run phase were not my forte! For small dips I tend to go skins but for longer sessions I’ll always wear a wetsuit.
Tell us about why you chose this event.
I entered the Great North Swim to celebrate finishing my university degree in the North and to kick off a summer of open water swimming events with a bang!
What drew you to Wilda and The Dart?
I first came across Wilda through Instagram and then whilst at the National Outdoor Expo, where I was able to see the products on offer in person. The designs definitely sparked the initial attraction to Wilda, but after some further research I really appreciate the core values at the heart of the brand.
What were your first impressions after putting The Dart on? Was there anything you particularly loved about it during your swim?
My first impressions of The Dart were that it was super comfortable. The different neoprene used in the shoulder meant I could move more freely, maximising efficiency through each arm stroke.
How does The Dart compare to other wetsuits you have worn?
The Dart is completely different to anything I’ve worn before. When I wear The Dart, the bright colours and design make me feel happy which bring an added joy to open water swimming!
Tell us about your swim! How did it go?!
I am really pleased with how the swim went. The course was great, it enabled me to take in the views of the Lake District even when I was swimming. My splits on each lap were consistent though there was some fair chop on the return leg, but this gave character to the swim!
What advice would you give to someone considering their first open water swim or triathlon?
Let someone know where you are and how long you plan on being in the water for!
Anything else you’d like to share about your experience?
The Great North Swim crew put on a great event, and the amount of safety personnel out on the course meant that everyone taking part were taken the upmost care of! I had so many compliments from volunteers and other competitors about The Dart which was lovely too!
