Open Water Swimming Experience: I have been swimming distances in open water for around 12 months, and I have only ever worn wetsuits because I’m scared of fish touching me!

Tell us about why you chose this event.

The Cotswolds Swim was my first ever open water swimming event last year after seeing what a wonderfully inclusive event it is when some friends swam it the year before. The atmosphere at the Cotswolds swim is fantastic, it is such an inclusive event and with shouty Dave there to encourage you across the finish line you always finish with a smile on your face!

What drew you to Wilda and The Dart?

I love my previous wetsuit, but was looking for an upgrade and was drawn to the sustainability and story behind the Dart, and of course the beautifully striking design.

What were your first impressions after putting The Dart on? Was there anything you particularly loved about it during your swim?

My absolute favourite part of the dart is the colour and how it stands out in a crowd. So much so, that my friend who was swimming the 5km distance thought she had spotted me during the swim - until she realised there was another person wearing the dart too! The functionality was also great!

Tell us about your swim! How did it go?!

I was injured going into my swim, so my only goal was to finish - but I surprised  myself with my time and went on to do a 3km swim the following month. Now, I’m going to swim the 3.8km distance in the Dart in September to build myself up to 5km next year!

What advice would you give to someone considering their first open water swim or triathlon?

Wear a wetsuit (The Dart is a great choice!). The buoyancy will really help with your confidence in the water when you are out of your depth for so long. Take some time to regulate your breathing and your pace, open water swimming is completely different to swimming in a pool. Don’t race anyone other than yourself!

Anything else you’d like to share about your experience?

Caitlin and Mike have put so much thought and love into Wilda and the Dart, which is obvious in every inch of the wetsuit (you will feel fabulous in it!) . It’s a worthwhile investment.
