A properly fitted wetsuit makes all the difference in your swimming performance and comfort. Follow these simple steps to ensure you get the most out of your swim.
Putting On Your Wetsuit
Start with your legs. Step into the wetsuit feet first, then gradually pull the legs up your body. Focus on positioning the crotch area as high as possible - this ensures proper torso length and prevents restriction during your swim stroke. Sometimes it is easier to place the ankle in a higher-than-expected position first, then you can always readjust later. Once you have the crotch as high as possible you can move on to your arms.
Add your arms one at a time. Insert each arm individually, making sure the underarm seams fit snugly into your armpits. The sleeves should sit high on your shoulders before you zip up. This positioning is crucial for maintaining full range of motion while swimming.
Fine-Tuning the Fit
Your wetsuit should feel snug but not restrictive. If you find the sleeves or ankle cuffs are too long, you can make minor adjustments by trimming them up to the innermost stitch along the wrist and ankle seams. Be conservative with any trimming and use a sharp pair of scissors - you can always remove more material, but you can't add it back!
Ready to Swim
A well-fitted wetsuit will feel like a second skin in the water, providing buoyancy and thermal protection without limiting your movement. Take your time with the fitting process - those extra few minutes will pay off with hours of comfortable swimming.
